ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today said that Arunachal needs more hospitals with advanced facilities to fulfill the needs of common people.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 50 bedded new block of Niba Hospital in presence of local MLA Techi Kaso here today.
Stressing the importance of better medical facilities in the state, the Chief Minister called upon the young entrepreneurs and medical professionals to open more hospitals in Capital and rest of the state. He said that such venture will not only generate self employment opportunities for youths but also help thousands of people who are unable to access health facilities. He added that establishing more hospitals with modern facilities would also save the unnecessary expenditure of common people that are forced to seek treatment outside the state.
Tuki further assured that his government would extend all possible assistance in establishing hospitals in the state.
Local MLA Techi Kaso said that with opening of new block of the hospital, people of Arunachal will be benefitted to a great extent. Kaso hoped the hospital would offer better service to the people.

Governor releases children’s book on folk heritage of Arunachal Pradesh in Malayalam
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Arunachal Pradesh Governor General (Retd.) JJ Singh released a children’s book written in Malayalam on folk heritage of Arunachal Pradesh at Raj Bhavan here today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed the hope that the book will reach out to the people in different parts of the country and facilitate them in knowing the rich culture assets of Arunachal Pradesh. The governor said that people like Sathyanarayan Mundayoor, who have dedicated their entire life in the service of the Arunachalee people, are saving the cultural heritage, traditions and arts for posterity.
He emphasized that all the folklores, moral stories and fables of every tribe should be translated into different indigenous dialects, including English and Hindi. He also congratulated the illustrator of the book for the realistic illustrations for the stories.
Earlier, introducing the book, Lower Subansiri deputy commission Nila Mohanan said that folktales are the soul and ethos of the community and the author has introduced the soul of Arunachal Pradesh to wider audiences. It will help other societies to know the rich tribal diversity of the State. It is Malayalee gift to people of Arunachal Pradesh, Mohanan added.
While expressing his view on the book, Mundayoor, who was conferred Arunachal Pradesh Governor’s Silver Medal for meritorious services to the youth in 2008 said that it is reading material for diverse people, which speaks of Arunachal Pradesh.
Thanking the Governor for releasing the book, the author said that it is an honour to a book for young people. He wished that it will encourage in bringing out many books by many authors.

Fights between two factions of NSCN intensify

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Factional fights between Naga rebel groups have further scaled up in Tirap and Changlang district with latest such incident taking place between NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) at Songking village, about 8 KM from Miao town in Changlang yesterday around 3 pm in the afternoon.
A police team along with Assam Rifles and CRPF jawans reached the spot in the evening. There was no report of any casualty or damage of public properties.
While talking to this journalist, Changlang district Superintendent of Police Tumme Amo confirmed the incident. “Our team has recovered some live cartridge from the spot during search operation and we are working on this case. The people of the district need not be scared of such incidence since police is there to protect them,” the SP said.
The factional clashes between two Naga rebel groups for supremacy in Tirap and Changlang district has been going on for past many years. The situation turned worst last year when many cadres of both the factions lost lives and public properties got damaged in the fights.
According to the highly placed source, the factional fights are intensifying in Tirap district to rein the supremacy.

The Arunachal government is well aware of the factional clashes going on in the two districts but has not taken any concrete steps for the safety of citizens.
“State govt has no courage to take on NSCN groups morally and physically. It is an open secret that all the political parties take help of Naga rebels for government formation in Itanagar. There is tacit understanding between Arunachalee politicians and NSCN,” informed a source.
He went on to add, “Only central government can do something on this issue. But they too are going easy. At present, they are working on formula to divide NSCN into many groups and let them fight among themselves.”
As all parties involved are running away from their responsibilities, the people of Tirap and Changlang are preparing themselves to face more such troubles in days to come.

Torgya Festival begins at Tawang
TAWANG, Jan 21: The three days long Torgya Festival began with recitation of religious texts and Monastic dances in the premises of Tawang Gonpa here today.
Amidst huge gathering, the Torgya (a pyramidal structure of about 10 feet tall made of flour) was carried out of the monastery in a procession of Lamas who dressed in warrior outfit and chanted war slogan. It was burnt outside the boundary wall of the monastery towards southern gate with full religious rites. This symbolizes destroying of all evil and destructive forces inflicting all living beings.
Earlier, the Torgya was placed before the deities in the main prayer hall of the monastery where the reverent Lamas performed religious rituals and also recited several religious texts. The monks dressed in colorful costumes and magnificent mask of deities and animals presented various monastic dances of specific meaning and significance at the courtyard of monastery on the occasion.
The religious ritual of Palden Lhamo, the main deity of Tawang monastery, was also performed today.
Tawang DC Kemo Lollen released a local audio album, ‘Lamag Kadrin’ which was produced by Buddhist Cultural Preservation Society to mark the occasion.
On January 22, the Abbot of the monastery will bestow Wang (blessings) to everyone present by touching their head and sprinkling holy water. The blessed Manribs pills and Rhungmas (sacred thread) shall also be distributed to all.
The recitation of religious texts and monastic dance will continue up to the third and final day of the festival.
This Monastic festival is celebrated at Tawang Monastery every year on the eleventh month of lunar calendar to expel evil forces and bring peace and prosperity to all living beings.
Torgya is a three day festival signifying the destruction of evil spirits and harmful forces. It seeks to promote prosperity and happiness amongst the people. This festival is believed to be celebrated to chase out the evil spirits and usher prosperity and happiness for people and crops.

Thousands of people throng the monastery during these three days in their best dresses, making the festival a carnival of colours.
The core event of the festival is Chham, a highly choreographed sacred dance lasting for three days. A select group of monks dressed in magnificent robes and wearing masks representing various divinities and earthly characters perform Chham in the courtyard of Tawang monastery to the accompaniment of beating drum and cymbals, blowing of huge telescopic horns and clarinets.
In the afternoon of the first day, the Abbot and other monks consign the sacrificial cake to the fire outside the compound of the monastery. On the final day of the festival, a vase initiation is bestowed by the Abbot of the monastery to the people and after making offering and ablution rituals in the presence of Maitreya Buddha; the image is taken for a procession on the circumambulation path, while at the same time the giant sized brocade Thangka is displayed for public viewing.

RBAPF opposes inclusion of Adi land in ‘Lower Siang’

RUKSIN, Jan 21: The Adi people of East Siang district, including the members of Ramle Banggo Adi Peoples’ Forum (RBAPF) are firm on their stand to protect Adi land upto Sime river in Seren circle and would never allow their land to include in the proposed Lower Siang district at ‘any cost’.
The RBAPF, in a written communique to this daily, stated that they have been sternly
opposing inclusion of Adi villages and land in the proposed Lower Siang district,
which is supposed to include present Nari-
“It has been observed that some Adi villages, namely Depi, Depi Moli. Detak under Nari circle and Sido and Korang under Koyu circles are supposed to be included in the proposed Lower Siang districts without consultation with the villagers or the people of East Siang” it said.
Gamoh informed that in the context of partition of Adi land, the people of Adi villages in Nari Koyu raised the issue in a meeting of the Adi Bane Kebang held at Depi village on April 27 last year and it was resolved in the meeting that the Simen river would remain as the boundary of Adi land at its lower part.

The programme was conducted for anganwadi workers and SHG members of Hunli, Lower Dibang Valley and Ziro, Lower Subansiri and organized by ICDS, Roing and Ziro respectively.

Rebia emphasises on civic sense, timely completion of TSC scheme

Fuel adulteration alleged
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Alleging sale of adulterated fuel by a petrol depot at Rigo Aalo, West Siang, Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) has demanded immediate closure of the depot till the case is cleared.
The vehicle of the ALSU team, in which they were travelling, broke down after they drove it few miles. The incident happened after the car was filled with petrol from the said depot, an ALSU release claimed.
It said that an FIR was lodged with Aalo police against the depot. Sample of the fuel was also collected for purity test by the investigating officer, it said.

ALSU demands for early creation of posts
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU), in a memorandum, has urged the Chief Minister to create posts of faculty and ministerial staff for Govt. Law College, Jote off Itanagar within the coming academic year.
While describing the need of human resources in the area of legal jurisprudence, ALSU said early start of the law college would benefit, specially the poor parents who are sending their wards outside the state for pursuing education in law.
The union urged the state government to prepare a DPR for infrastructure development of the law college and submit it to the Centre for necessary fund.
Other demands of the memorandum included, establishment of central jail, juvenile court/home/ board, opening of session court, codification of customary law, and separation of judiciary from executive.
